PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)
If you’re dealing with PCOS-related hair growth, you already know the standard tools don’t work. Coarse hair on the face, neck, chest, or stomach that comes back faster than shaving, waxing or threading can keep up with. Regular hair removal packages aren’t built for it.
Laser is. At Laser X in downtown Toronto, we treat PCOS-related hair on the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus, with treatment plans built around how the hair actually behaves.
Why PCOS hair is different
PCOS drives elevated androgens, and androgens drive terminal hair growth on the face, neck, chest, stomach, back and inner thighs. That hair is coarser and more pigmented than the vellus hair most people have in those areas, which is actually good news for laser — coarse, dark hair on lighter skin is exactly what the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus is built to target.
The harder part is that hormones don’t stop. New follicles come online as your hormone levels shift with age, medication changes, weight changes, pregnancy or menopause. Standard laser packages that give you six sessions and send you on your way don’t account for this. You finish the sixth session, you have less hair than when you started, and then six months later new hair shows up somewhere it wasn’t before.
Why the Lifetime Plan matters here
Regular session packages set PCOS clients up to run out. Six sessions catches maybe half of the hair cycles you need caught, and hormonal hair is exactly the kind that needs more sessions than average to see full reduction.
Our Lifetime Plan gives you two years of unlimited sessions on your chosen area, followed by one free touch-up per year after that. Two years of unlimited is what it actually takes to work through the layered hair cycles PCOS produces. The yearly touch-up after that is what catches new hormonal growth as your body changes.
This is the plan structure that actually fits PCOS. It’s why we designed it.
Safe for every skin tone
PCOS affects people across every skin tone, and the areas most commonly treated (face, neck, inner thighs) are also the most melanin-active and least forgiving of the wrong laser.
We use the 1064 nm Nd:YAG on deeper skin tones (brown skin, Black skin, and other Fitzpatrick IV to VI), which passes safely around the melanin in your skin. The 755 nm Alexandrite handles fair to olive tones. Every client is patch tested before their first full session, and settings are adjusted between visits based on how your skin actually responded.
What to expect
Session length: Varies by area. Face and neck take 10 to 15 minutes. Larger body areas can take 30 minutes or more.
Sensation: A quick snap. The Zimmer Cryo 6 runs cold air over the area continuously, so your skin is already numb from the cold before the pulse lands.
Spacing: 4 to 6 weeks between sessions
Sessions typically needed: Often more than clients without PCOS. Plan on 12 to 15 sessions for hormonal areas, sometimes more, with ongoing touch-ups after.
Downtime: None. Skip active exercise, saunas, sun and hot showers for 24 hours after treatment.
We’ll assess your hair and skin, walk through what results look like for your situation, and quote your plan. No pressure, no obligation.
